Challenge
Social Work England became the new independent regulator for social work in England in December 2019. Before their launch, they wanted to make sure all their documentation and guidance was clear and accessible to anyone who wanted to read it.
Outcome
Working specifically on the fitness to practice and education guidance, I worked with the internal comms team as well as SMEs to develop documentation that was free of technical and legal jargon, wherever possible. For guidance where legal or complex terminology was necessarily for clarity, I created a glossary page that defined these terms in simple, clear language.
What I did as the copywriter and copy editor:
📖 Followed the Gov.uk style guide
Ensured all documentation followed the Gov.uk style guide for consistency as well as Social Work England’s internal language and Tone of Voice guidance.
🧑💼 Worked closely with SMEs
Communicated with SMEs on a daily basis to seek confirmation and clarification wherever necessary to reduce the number of rounds of review needed on the documentation.
🤹♀️ Managed workflow of documentation
Managed the writing, editing and feedback implementation of hundreds of pages of documentation with a hard deadline of Social Work England’s launch.
